History

Our story

Coolest Projects was created in 2012 by CoderDojo in Ireland. What began as a local event expanded to other countries and now includes both in-person and online editions.

2012

First edition

CoderDojo organised the first Coolest Projects in Ireland so young people could show the technology projects they were building in their dojos.

2013–2016

Growth

More CoderDojo communities from other countries joined each year. Coolest Projects became a recurring event for the international CoderDojo network.

2017–2019

International expansion

The event was renamed Coolest Projects International. Young makers from CoderDojo Córdoba travelled to Ireland for three consecutive editions, representing Argentina for the first time.

2020

Online edition

The pandemic led to the creation of a virtual edition open to participants from any country. The online showcase continues to run alongside in-person events.

2021–present

In-person events resume

Coolest Projects is now organised by country and region. There are in-person events in Ireland, England, Belgium, Japan, Canada, South Africa, Malaysia and the United States. The online edition remains open worldwide.
